Top Al Qaeda commander killed in Soma
APA-Mogadishu(Somalia) Newly appointed Alqaeda commander in Somalia was killed during a shootout between opposing Alshabab members in Somali capital, Mogadishu on Sunday evening.
Sources close to the Alqaeda proxy in Somalia- Alshabab, say that the slain commander Amar Ibrahim, a Jordanian national was appointed as the Alqaeda commander in Somalia late last year succeeding Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan, the former Alqaeda boss in Somalia who was killed by a US air strike in southern Somalia on September 14 last year.
“He recently arrived in Somalia to succeed our Brother Saleh Nabhan and was killed last night after some of our soldiers fired at each other at his home in the Yaqshid district north of the city,” an Al shabab fighter who sought anonymity told APA by phone. Residents say several other militants died in the ensuing feud that lasted for 15 minutes.
However Al shabab leaders could not be immediately reached for comment.
Hundreds of foreign Jihadists are fighting a longside the Alqaeda-linked Al shabab movement in Somalia which says it will continue fighting till it reaches to its target of introducing Islamic law into Somalia.
